The Brazilian Federal Police Exam in 2025

Registration for the Brazilian Federal Police exam in 2025 for the positions of Federal Police Chief, Expert, Federal Police Clerk, Agent and Fingerprint Specialist are open. The exams are scheduled for July 27, 2025 and registrations range from May 26 to June 13.

In the vacancies published in EDITAL No 1 – PF – POLICE, 20 MAY 2025, the level of education required is diploma, duly registered, of completion of higher education degree, provided by higher education institution recognized by MEC. Since, for the position of Federal Police Chief, a bachelor's degree in law is required for the positions of Expert, higher education degree is required in the respective area of activity, and for the positions of Agent, scribe and Fingerprint Specialist, graduation degree of any area of training is required. As there is no reference to the term “technologist” in the Notice, it is possible that doubts arise whether the technologist would be accepted in the event.

In view of the above, I would like to express My opinion on the subject, to help other candidates who may be going through a situation I went through a few years ago. For those who do not know me, my name is Nilson, I am Federal Criminal Forensics Expert – Area 3, of the 2018 exam. I am a a graduate in Systems Analysis and Development from UFPR and Master in Computer Engineering by ITA.

However, when I did the exam in 2018, I still did not have the master's degree that I completed only in 2022. In other words, my degree in Systems Analysis and Development met, yes, the requirement imposed in the 2018 Notice.

The Brazilian legislation that recognizes the Technologist course as a higher education course is the Law of National Education Guidelines and Bases (LDB), Law No. 9.394/1996, in which the Art. 39, § 2 It says:

“ Vocational and technological education shall cover the following courses:
III – of undergraduate vocational technological education and graduate.”

This makes it clear that the technological course (or technologist) It's a graduation mode, and therefore is considered upper level in Brazil.

As for joining the Federal Police career, the law that rejects the theme is the DECREASE-LEI No 2.320 OF 26 JANUARY 1987. And in particular to the post of Federal Criminal Forensics Expert, Art. 7, paragraph VIII says:

“ For the functional category of Federal Criminal Forensics Expert, have a diploma in specific higher education for the area of training, with the respective specialty, able to meet the needs of the Federal Criminal Forensics, to be defined in the tender notice.”

In addition to DECREASE-LEI No 2.320 OF 26 JANUARY 1987 on entry into the careers of PF, DECISION No 5.116 OF 24 JUNE 2004 regulates the entry into the position of Federal Criminal Forensics Expert. Art. 1 of this Decree says:

Art. 1^oTo enter the functional category of Federal Criminal Forensics Expert of the Permanent Board of the Federal Police Department of the Ministry of Justice, which deals with theArticle 7 paragraph VIII^oDecree-Law n^o2.320 of 26 January 1987, it is necessary to possess degree in one of the higher education courses Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Pharmacy, Accounting Sciences, Biological Sciences, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Communication Network Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agronomic Engineering, Forest Engineering, Cartographic Engineering, Mine Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Computer Sciences, Data Processing, System Analysis, Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Biomedicine, Medicine, Dentistry and Economic Sciences.

As it is possible to observe, in the list described in Art. 1o, some of the superior courses described are possible to obtain through technological graduation, as was my degree in Systems Analysis and Development.

However, and certainly, the role of Art. 1 does not exhaust all existing higher education courses. Due to this, the candidates approved in the intellectual examination that do not fit in this list are analyzed case by case by the competition bank, to verify whether or not there is compliance with the requirement imposed in the Notice.

So, in my opinion, I see that it is possible, yes, the participation of technologists in the current event, including for the position of Federal Criminal Forensics Expert, in view of this analysis of the current legislation, SMJ, and my personal experience
